The objectives of the solution
Solution Objectives for Participants
The participants will test three different versions of shoes. Each runner will receive a pair of running shoes and will have to:
- Share your running data recorded by your smartwatch by connecting to the STRIDE platform.
- Complete a questionnaire about potential musculoskeletal complaints (pain or injuries) weekly via a dedicated web application.
Solution Objectives for LIH and Decathlon
This study will provide valuable insights into the relationship between shoe cushioning and injury risk, thus helping researchers and footwear manufacturers make informed decisions for future product designs.
Our achievement
After several workshops, the project underwent several development phases:
- Project architecture definition
- Mockup creation
- Complete development of an administrator portal
- Full Development of a Researcher Portal
- Full development of a participant portal
- Third-party API integration for race data centralization
- Security audit
- Testing
- On-premise deployment (client-side)
Testimony
The “Physical Activity, Sport & Health” team at the Luxembourg Institute of Health is known for its expertise in preventing running-related injuries, particularly for its studies on shoe properties. For our new study, conducted in partnership with Decathlon, we are comparing 3 different cushioning solutions in shoes and aim to recruit over 1,000 runners. We needed to create a solution that allows for participant recruitment (account creation, study information, consent collection, appointment scheduling, etc.), data collection through questionnaires (demographic data, running history, feedback on the shoes, etc.), and direct import of running data recorded by participants' sports watches (Garmin, Polar, and Suunto).
We are very satisfied with the final solution, which fully meets our expectations. It is important to highlight the involvement of the developer, Abdelkarim, in the project, and particularly his suggestions, responsiveness, and understanding of our needs. Communication with Technology Partner, and essentially Alisson, was effective and constructive. Technology Partner has always been attentive to our needs and constraints and has shown openness to all solutions. It was a positive and fruitful collaboration. Laurent Malisoux, Group Leader.
